It would never be “us against the world”.

Just me versus you and you versus you

and all the other battles

you pick but can never win.

You say you're apathetic, but empathy is all you feel.

I appreciate that you let me in along with the breeze,

but it is now all too much.

It’s time for you to close the doors, tired boy.

Lay your head down, rest your muscles.

I will be waiting on the front porch stoop

with a soapy bucket and ready hands

for when you unlatch that door once more

and let me in to dust away the cobwebs

you strung up yourself.

Trustworthy are the tides.

I know that with their goings, there will always be comings.

I ask for a response and they send me waves.

I ask for life and they send me fish.

I ask to know what is on the horizon and they pull me in.
